Terry Pratchett: Choosing To Die (2011) - Full Documentary
Terry P is one of my favorite fantasy writers ever.
he was diagnosed with early onset alzheimers a couple of years back.
this documentary is about the lack of freedom of choosing how to deal with a debilitating disorder and how to find workarounds.
"choosing how to die" was screened last summer on british tv.
I couldn't make myself watch it to the end, because it got too emotional in a manly kind of way. it's weird how we spend most of our lives denying that we all have to leave this world. T. Pratchett actually helped me a lot to come to grips with the loss of a sudden death of one of my best friends when we both were in our early twenties.
The characters in his book all have very different believes about what's going to happen once they die, but what they all have in common is, that whatever they truly believe to be true is going to come real.. with some funny twist for some characters.
Terry Pratchett has an amazing talent for words IMHO and I can understand fully that he doesn't want to suffer through even more loss of his faculties. ATM he has a male secretary whom he's dictating his latest books to.
Even if you are still around us, you are at a stage in life where you have to prepare for your departure, and having been around a couple of sudden deaths I think that's preferable, being able to say good-bye to those you love.
lot's of love to you and your family! thanks so much for all the pleasure, laughter and insight into life your books have given me!!
